Layflat Hose for Mine Dewatering: Selection, Installation and Storage

Mine dewatering lines often need to move quickly as pits, sumps and discharge points change. PVC layflat hose is designed for that temporary positive-pressure duty: it stores flat, deploys in long sections and can be recovered after the job. Its portability does not remove the need for correct pressure selection, connections, route protection and inspection.

Where layflat hose creates value

A layflat hose is empty and flat before pressurization. It can be rolled into a compact package, carried to a work area and deployed along a temporary route. These characteristics are useful at open-pit mines, construction sites, agricultural fields and emergency water-transfer projects where the discharge point changes or the line must be recovered after use.

The product belongs on the positive-pressure discharge side. It is not designed to keep an open circular section under suction, and it should not replace a spiral or otherwise verified suction hose at the pump inlet.

Current CARCHARTECH large-diameter reference

The current reference uses PVC inner and outer layers with high-strength polyester-yarn reinforcement. Both models are supplied in red. The burst-pressure values above must not be published or used as recommended continuous working pressure. Final working pressure must include a suitable safety factor for steady pressure, surge, fluid temperature, connection method and site conditions.

Product familyBest starting pointImportant boundary
PVC fiber-reinforced water hoseFlexible positive-pressure water delivery, irrigation and utility water; 0.75-3 in current rangeNot specified for suction or vacuum service
PVC spiral reinforced hosePump suction/discharge for water, irrigation and drainage; 1-8 in current rangeMatch size to vacuum condition and working pressure
PVC layflat discharge hoseTemporary positive-pressure dewatering and long runs; current 6 and 8 in, 50 m rollsNot a suction hose; burst pressure is not working pressure
Textile cord rubber discharge hoseSand-water, muddy water and demanding positive-pressure discharge; 2-8 inUse the model-specific pressure; request a suction-rated construction for inlet duty

Good applications for a 6- or 8-inch layflat line

    1. Pump-outlet mine dewatering and temporary water removal.

    2. Construction drainage and temporary bypass routes.

    3. Agricultural irrigation and field water distribution.

    4. Emergency water transfer where the line is deployed and recovered quickly.

    5. Long positive-pressure discharge routes for clear water or light muddy water after pressure and medium review.

When to choose another product

    1. Use a spiral or verified suction hose at the pump inlet.

    2. Consider a rubber discharge hose for more demanding sand-water, muddy-water or solids-bearing service.

    3. Consider PE100 HDPE pipe when the route is fixed, long-term and suitable for planned fusion or flange transitions.

    4. Request a separate compatibility review for oil, fuel, chemicals, high temperature or compressed air.

Installation sequence

    1. Inspect the roll. Check the cover, folds, ends, labels and any visible transport damage before deployment.

    2. Confirm the exact route. Remove sharp objects and protect crossings, edges and areas exposed to vehicles or moving equipment.

    3. Unroll the hose in the intended direction. Do not drag a tightly folded hose or introduce twists before connection.

    4. Match the coupling and clamp. Confirm hose inside diameter, pump outlet, connection standard and operating pressure.

    5. Support the connection. Prevent the full hose weight or water-filled load from hanging on the pump outlet.

    6. Fill and pressurize gradually. Observe every connection and the full route during startup.

    7. Control bends and movement. Avoid sharp folds, repeated rubbing and uncontrolled whipping or lateral movement.

    8. Shut down safely. Release pressure, drain the line and disconnect only after the system is isolated.

Storage and inspection

After use, drain and clean the hose according to the transferred medium. Allow it to dry as required, roll it flat without tight folds and store it in a clean area away from excessive heat, sharp objects and mechanical damage. Do not place concentrated loads on unsupported bends.

Before reuse, inspect the cover, fold lines, coupling area and clamps. Look for abrasion, cuts, bulges, soft spots, exposed reinforcement, loose connections or permanent deformation. Remove a questionable section from service until it is evaluated.

What to include in a layflat hose inquiry

Provide the pump outlet size, required flow, continuous pressure, possible surge, medium, temperature, total route length, elevation difference, required roll length, coupling type, quantity and destination. Site photos help identify crossings, bends and support needs.

CARCHARTECH can quote the 6- or 8-inch hose together with compatible connection components and a project-specific packing basis.
